Louise & Brian Banff Elopement

We had the pleasure of photographing Louise & Brian’s wedding in our favorite destinations Banff, Alberta. A special place to the couple as well, the wedding day started at Banff Springs Hotel. The actual ceremony took place on carriage provided by Holiday on Horseback.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church & The Fairfax at Embassy Row Wedding

We had a great time photographing the wedding of Jackie & Farley recently. The day began with getting ready photos in the bridal suite at the The Fairfax at Embassy Row in Washington DC. The makeup artists from Bridal Artistry were hard at work when we arrived and we were able to do photos with the bride and groom separately before heading off to the ceremony at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria, Virginia. The Catholic wedding ceremony had many significant moments, wonderful hymns and singing, along with a sacrament the Holy Communion service the Eucharist. After the wedding ceremony, we took the couple and wedding party over to The US Capitol building in Washington DC for wedding photos. Later on, it was back to The Fairfax hotel in DC for the wedding reception. The historic Fairfax hotel is a wonderful wedding location, the service is impeccable, and the ballroom is quite gorgeous. The wedding featured beautiful floral arrangements by L’Artisan Lily and individually wrapped cupcake favors for the children by Georgetown Cupcake. We were glad to be a part of Jackie and Farley’s wedding day and we wish them a wonderful life together.

The Bristow Manor Wedding of Justine & Matt

This past weekend, we photographed the beautiful wedding of Justine and Matt. They are both enlisted dentists in the Navy, and will be heading off soon to serve in Japan. It was an honor to photograph their wedding, and especially fitting for a Memorial Day weekend military wedding when we recognize the service of our troops. We started out the wedding day at The Willard Intercontinental Washington DC. It was a perfect location to start with getting ready photos in the rooms and portraits in the beautiful lobby and foyer. The couple looked amazing and we had a wonderful time working with them. Justine’s beautiful dress was a perfect match to Matt’s military evening dress suit adored with military regalia. We had the opportunity to do wedding photos at the Lincoln Memorial, and while being packed full of visitors for Memorial Day weekend, the crowd spread out forming a circle around Justine and Matt when we asked them to go up on the steps for some photos. The crowd formed around them and nearly everyone was snapping photos of the couple, and then a huge cheer erupted for them as they kissed on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. It was a wonderful scene to observe. Next, we traveled on to Bristow Manor Golf Club near Manassas for the wedding ceremony and reception. Bristow Manor is a gorgeous venue and incredible location for wedding photos. The bride arrived to the ceremony on horse-drawn carriage from Harmon’s Carriages. During the ceremony, the couple did a “Love Letter & Wine Box Ceremony” tradition in which they placed private love letters into a box with a bottle of wine and sealed the box with a hammer. The box is to be opened on their 1st anniversary, wine shared, and love letters read. At the end of the ceremony, four Navy servicemen were there to do The Arch of the Swords Ceremony where the couple was asked to kiss before being able to pass underneath the swords. By tradition, the last serviceman gives the bride a tap on the backside with the sword and a “Welcome to the Navy” greeting. The couple left by horse-drawn carriage and we went to a few locations in the fields and around the Manor for some photographs. The reception was a great celebration of the couple, and perfectly capped off a fabulous wedding day. We send them best wishes for their future together.

Julie & Alex Wedding in Washington DC

It was our great honor to photograph the beautiful wedding of Julie Borowski and Alex Galkin that took place in Washington DC this past weekend. The wedding was so elegant, with Julie’s gorgeous wedding dress and classic bouquet of red roses along with Alex’s handsome suit and red rose boutonniere. We went to the Jefferson Memorial for wedding photos and could not have asked for a more perfect setting to capture the bride & groom portraits. The Russian Orthodox wedding ceremony took place at the Saint Nicholas Cathedral in Washington DC. The St. Nicholas Cathedral is quite spectacular, while being intimate at the same time, and the Father conducted a very touching ceremony. The wedding reception was held at The Georgetown Club, a historic venue in Georgetown. It was a wonderful pleasure to work with Julie and Alex. We wish them many long years of health, happiness, and all the very best. Congratulations!

Beautiful photos at the Jefferson! Congratulations!!

Calgary Zoo Wedding

Tatiana & Aaron had a wonderful fall wedding that took place at the Calgary Zoo, which is a very beautiful location for wedding photography!

Our day began with getting ready photos taken at the Delta Bow Valley hotel in downtown Calgary. The groom was wearing a stylish three-piece suit, and he and his groomsmen had boutineers made with fall themed arrangements of a white flower, autumn leaves, and red berries. Tatiana’s bridesmaids helped her into her gorgeous wedding dress. The bride looked spectacular and so elegant, along with her lovely arrangement of autumn coloured flowers in her wedding bouquet.

Their wedding ceremony itself occurred in the gardens surrounding the Calgary Zoo Conservatory. With family and friends surrounding them, they performed a touching wedding ceremony. The Calgary Zoo is a great location for weddings photos, and after the ceremony we were able to go to several locations around the Zoo. The bride and groom are both runners, so we captured a few photos of the two in action running through the lawns and open spaces. The Zoo also offered some nice locations with beautiful flower gardens, rockery landscapes, and forested areas. We visited the tiger cubs, who were incredibly fascinated with Tatiana and her beautiful white wedding dress. One of the tiger cubs in particular was following Tatiana all along the glass window and kept trying to paw at her dress.

During the wedding reception inside the Calgary Zoo ENMAX Conservatory, the venue served a wonderful multi-course meal and there were many speeches, toasts, and reception games, like the shoe game. The bride’s parents presented bread and salt to the couple in the Ukrainian wedding tradition. There was a breaking of the bread, and they said the tradition was that whomever gets the largest piece when the bread breaks “wears the pants in the family”. When they broke the bread, it was into two pieces of the same size! The great food was enjoyed by everyone and especially all of the homemade pies from their family. Rather than a cake cutting, there was a wedding pie cutting to end the meal.

We want to thank Tatiana and Aaron for allowing us to photograph their beautiful wedding and for having us be a part of their special day!

Q Haute Cuisine Wedding in Calgary

Wenlei & Richard were surrounded by many friends and family for their wonderful wedding on a perfect autumn day in Calgary. The day started off bright and early with two traditional Chinese tea ceremonies at each family’s residences. Wenlei’s parents had come over from China to visit Calgary for the wedding of their daughter, who was hidden safely in the bedroom when Richard and his entourage arrived at their house. Richard knocked on the front door with many friends, brothers, and other family in tow. But before he was permitted to enter the house, he first had to get passed Wenlei’s maid of honour and friends. Richard had to pass a series of tests, the Chinese door games, in order to be able to retrieve his bride-to-be.

The games started off with a challenge to eat a little bit of everything that represents marriage – something sweet, sour, bitter, and spicy. Then it was on to a set of trivia questions about the bride, and their lives together. Richard answered everything flawlessly, and never needed to use any of his red envelopes. After several other tests, including searching the house for Wenlei’s shoe, and a serenade to the bride sung by the groom and his groomsmen, Richard was finally able to enter the bride’s room. It was a lot of fun to witness all of the door game challenges and to capture everything in the photos.

Next, Wenlei and Richard served tea to their family members during the first Chinese tea ceremony with the bride’s family and then at Richard’s parents’ home with his family. After the traditional Chinese ceremonies had taken place, the bride changed from her Chinese red dress into her white wedding dress, and we went around the city to a few locations for wedding photos.

We were able to take photographs inside the old mattress warehouse in the East Village, with its beautiful brick walls, and then onto Rundle Ruins for more wedding photographs and eventually to the new Peace Bridge, in all its brilliant red glory spanning the Bow River at Eau Claire Park Calgary.

The day continued with a wedding ceremony at the exquisite Q Haute Cuisine, a French restaurant in downtown Calgary, which has a great indoor wedding ceremony location with quite a lot of natural light and a warm fireplace to set the ambiance. The ceremony was followed by a fun reception, with many beautiful details and decorations, touching speeches, fun reception games, wedding cake cutting, first dance, and more dancing throughout the night.

Thank you to Wenlei & Richard for having us as a part of your special wedding day, and we wish you a beautiful life together.
